Rock Creek lies beside the Kettle River in the Boundary region of BC. It was historically a gold town and is now largely a ranchland and tourist region. The natural grasslands and river valleys are beautiful. The Rail Trial along the old KVR railbed links the entire region.
Several excellent biking trails are in the area with the main attraction being the Kettle Valley Railway Trail that follows the railbed for hundreds of kilometers. You can bike south from Carmi just north of Beaverdell along the river past Westbridge and into Rock Creek. This portion of the Trans Canada Trail passes the Kettle Valley Region Park which is a great place to go for a swim in the creek beside the Tressle bridge.
The trail continues east to midway where the Railway Museum is an excellent place to stop and visit. The Midway Tourism Organization has a small hostel there for cyclists and groups biking the KVR trail. Midway is “mile Zero” on the old KVR line.
If you continue East you will arrive at Greenwood, an old mining town with a beautiful historic mainstreet. A popular cycling tour goes in the opposite direction and leaves Midway to travel west for 185 KM to Naramata near Penticton. Into the Wild Cycling Tours offers tours on the KVR for those interested. The Kettle River RV is a great basecamp for this ride and others.
Of course you can hike along the trail and explore many of the other trail systems in the area. For Mountain Biking the Midway Trail Systems is excellent.
